The Jekyll Island Club Hotel was originally built in 1886 as a hunting retreat for America’s wealthy elite including J.P. Morgan, William Rockefeller, Joseph Pulitzer, as well as the Vanderbilts, Goulds and Astors. Restored to its original splendor in 1986 and opened in 1987, it is now a National Historic Landmark and a member of Historic Hotels of America. The hotel is celebrating two anniversaries in 2012, 125 years of history and 25 years of hospitality and we want you to celebrate with us! In 2012, to commemorate the 125 year anniversary of the Jekyll Island Club, the hotel has put together a 2012 commemorative calendar. Spend each month re-living history. 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month
The Jekyll Island Club Hotel would like to invite you to celebrate our 125th and 25th anniversaries on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at our Lobby Bar! We will be hosting a manager’s reception and cocktail hour from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. All house liquor, wine and bottled beer drinks are $1.25. All other drinks are 25% off! Light hors d’oeuvres will be served.
2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month- Historic Hotel Tours
Learn about the Jekyll Island Club’s 125 years of rich history, including stories passed down over time, when the hotel’s concierge conducts a fabulous tour of the Club and Cottages. Hotel tours are complimentary to guests and on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month only $1.25 for the public.
Details: Monday – Thursday at 2:00 p.m., year round. See the concierge or call x1000 for reservations.

Special Restaurant Discounts for Hotel Guests in February
Throughout the month of February guests staying at the hotel will receive 12.5% off dining to celebrate our 125 year anniversary. With delightful historic settings, renowned as the best restaurants in the Golden Isles, you are sure to find something that will delight your taste buds.
The Club Hotel’s dining options include the Grand Dining Room, award winning dining featuring fresh seafood and regional cuisine. The glow of candlelight and piano music create an atmosphere of romance and anticipation of the gourmet meal to come. The Grand Dining Room also features a Sunday Brunch.
The Courtyard at Crane, offering casual fine dining, is located in the center courtyard and loggia of the historic Crane Cottage. The menu features Mediterranean and Northern California selections along with the wine menu which can be aired. Guests are offered the option of dining inside or alfresco.

Music & Merlot- UGA Accidentals* An A Cappella Evening

Join us later this year or in 2012 for one (or more!) of the concerts we are offering in the Music and Merlot series. Concerts are presented by the Jekyll Island Club Hotel and the Jekyll Island Authority, benefitting the Jekyll Island Foundation. The Jekyll Island Foundation assists in preservation, conservation and education of the historical assets here on Jekyll Island.

Founders Day and Anniversary Celebration
On April 13, be a part of history as a Progressive Dinner (6:30-11:30 pm) winds through the Historic District celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Jekyll Island Club Hotel’s grand opening and observing Founders Day as themillionaires did at theturn of the century. This historic event includes stops at Moss Cottage, Indian Mound Cottage and the Morgan Center. Enjoy a heavy hors d’oeuvres dinner, dessert buffet and dancing to the Palmetto Catz. February
Civil War Living History- Meet Susie King Taylor, portrayed by Sherrie Tollivar, who served as the first African American Army nurse during the Civil War. She worked with the First South Carolina Volunteers, the first black Union Army Regiment, which served on St. Simons Island, Jekyll Island, and throughout the South. Join her as she looks back on her life in camp with the black troops.

Sea Island Spirituals: The Legacy of Willis Proctor
The Geechee Gullah Ring Shouters present a tribute concert honoring the musical traditions of Willis Proctor. Proctor was a valet for William Rockefeller at the Jekyll Island Club. He later owned a store on St. Simon’s Island, which was a “jumping” nightspot. Proctor is especially remembered for his contributions to folk music as a Georgia Sea Island Singer. The Geechee Gullah Ring Shouters celebrate Proctor’s legacy, performing music he originally recorded.

Sweetgrass Basketmaking Workshop
Learn to weave baskets from Master Basket Weaver Yvonne Grovner and continue one of the oldest art forms of African origin in America. Enjoy this 200-year-old tradition, making your own masterpiece from locally found sweet cord grass.

The Search for the Wanderer Survivors
Journey with researcher April Hynes on her quest to discover what happened to the survivors of the slave ship Wanderer, which arrived on Jekyll Island in 1858. With support from Ancestry.com and the Chipstone Foundation, Hynes shares amazing stories of Wanderer survivors’ experiences and filmed interviews with descendants of the enslaved Africans. Explore their rich cultural legacy with Archaeologist Mark Newell, as he unveils research into the origins and production of face jugs.

125th Anniversary Founders Day Celebration – April 13
An evening Progressive Dinner showcasing the beauty of the Historic District while celebrating the completion of numerous restoration projects that have brought this unique site to life.

Historic Preservation Month
Special Behind-the-Scenes Tours of Hollybourne Cottage showcase the beauty of the only Jekyll Cottage that is yet to be restored.

Horton House Living History
Relive the diplomacy of nations that took place on Jekyll Island over 275 years ago. In 1736, cultures collided as William Horton entertained British, Spanish, and Creek leaders on Jekyll Island. Interact with period reenactors and sample the daily life of long ago through a variety of hands-on activities.

Holidays in History
The cottages of the historic district are decorated for the season! Imagine Christmas through the ages as you venture inside the cottages of Jekyll Island’s National Historic Landmark District and experience the holidays from the Victorian Era to the Jazz Age.
