New Hampton Inn and Suites Resort on Jekyll Island

General Manager Kevin Runner of the Jekyll Island Club Hotel and principal of co-developers, Jekyll Ocean Oaks, announced recently that progress on the new Hampton Inn and Suites Resort is right on schedule. Vertical construction is complete and interior finishing is underway. The building contractor, Pinkerton & Laws of Marietta, Georgia, plans to release the building October 31, 2009. The official opening of the hotel is scheduled for January 12, 2010. This will be the first new hotel to open its doors on Jekyll Island in over 35 years.

Located on South Beachview Drive, the new beachfront hotel will "provide the ideal environment for a weekend getaways, family vacations or small corporate events," according to a spokesperson. The complex will offer an array of amenities including meeting facilities for small groups, an outdoor pool, whirlpool and fitness room. Additionally, the property has already instituted "green" construction and management practices by recycling nearly $40,000.00 worth of materials salvaged from the motel previously located on the site.

Runner announced that he has hired a general manager and a director of sales for the property. Deborah Exum, named general manager of the new Hampton Inn & Suites, was previously associated with Williams Investment Company where she served as director of sales and marketing for the company's hotel division. The new director of sales and marketing for the Hampton Inn is Susan Christian. Ms. Christian comes to the new Hampton Inn from United Community Bank of St. Simons Island, Georgia where she worked on account development, client maintenance and staff training. Their temporary offices will be located at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, and reservations will be accepted beginning August 1st.

This project is an important early step in the revitalization of Jekyll Island. Plans are being completed for the Beach Village project, the new Convention Center, and the Canopy Bluff project.
