Jekyll Island Club Hotel to Add Morgan Conference Center to Meeting Facilities
The Jekyll Island Club Hotel announces the opening of an exciting new conference facility June, 2010. The Morgan Indoor Tennis Court, originally built in 1930, is being completely renovated and transformed into a beautiful, dual-level conference center.
The historic building, located near the center of the Historic District, retains its handsome exterior of wooden shakes and distinctive detailing of the period and is enhanced by its setting among the oak trees and proximity to the hotel. The interior, through extensive remodeling, is striking in its openness and adaptability for groups of 350 people on the lower level (4900 square feet) and 120 more on the upper level Morgan Center Mezzanine (1800 square feet).
Historic preservation and being "green" are important aspects of the renovation. Contractors are working with the advice of John Hunter, the Director of Historic Resources on Jekyll Island. "Adaptive re-use like this is the original 'green building' movement," said Hunter. "When compared to constructing a new building of the same size, we will be consuming fewer natural resources and creating a building that will be energy efficient while preserving an important historic resource."
"We are pleased to add this facility with its larger capacity for conferences and events to the hotel's meeting space," said Hotel General Manager Kevin Runner. "We look forward to extending our catering and event services to larger groups than ever before." Site visits for meeting planners may be scheduled now for January 2nd and beyond, and bookings scheduled for events in late June, 2010, and after.
Meeting and wedding planners will find an additional advantage in the availability of combined booking for overnight accommodations --- at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel and the Hampton Inn and Suites of Jekyll Island. The two hotels, which are owned by the same company, Jekyll Ocean Oaks, LLC, have a combined total of 295 rooms and suites. The Morgan Conference Center, located just east of the Hotel's Sans Souci building, is about one mile from the Hampton Inn and Suites which will provide complimentary shuttle service. The newly built Hampton Inn and Suites is scheduled to open January 7th.
Events held in the Morgan Conference Center will be catered from an attached state of the art banquet kitchen, by the award winning staff of the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. Offering full service for business conferences, meetings, weddings, and other social events, the catering and culinary staffs are dedicated to professional excellence.
