The Jekyll Island Club Hotel will be opening an exciting new conference facility June, 2010. The Morgan Indoor Tennis Court, originally built in 1930, is being completely renovated and transformed into a beautiful, dual-level conference center, and it’s going “green.”
Historic preservation and being "green" are important aspects of the renovation of the Morgan Indoor Tennis Court. According to John Hunter, Director of Historic Resources for the Jekyll Island Authority, "Adaptive re-use like this is the original 'green building' movement. When compared to constructing a new building of the same size, we will be consuming fewer natural resources and creating a building that will be energy efficient while preserving an important historic resource.". |
The historic building, located near the center of the Historic District, will retain its handsome exterior of wooden shakes and distinctive detailing of the period. The interior, through extensive remodeling, will accommodate 350 people on the lower level (4900 square feet) and 120 more on the upper level Morgan Center Mezzanine (1800 square feet).
"We are pleased to add this facility with its larger capacity for conferences and events to the hotel's meeting space," said Hotel General Manager Kevin Runner. "We look forward to extending our catering and event services to larger groups than ever before." Site visits for meeting planners may be scheduled now; bookings, scheduled for events in late June, 2010, and after.
Events held in the Morgan Conference Center will be catered from an attached state of the art banquet kitchen, by the award winning staff of the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. Offering full service for business conferences, meetings, weddings, and other social events, the catering and culinary staffs are dedicated to professional excellence.

Beautiful sunsets, seen through the windows of the historic Grand Dining Room, have inspired the Chef to create a Sunset Dinner special menu with imaginative choices. During the Club Era, 1888 through the first decades of the 1900’s, dinner in this dining room was the highlight of the entire day for many club members including J.P. Morgan, William Rockefeller, Joseph Pulitzer, their families and friends.
Guests have a choice of the Soup du Jour or the House Salad of mixed season greens, cucumbers, leeks and toasted pecans with Basil Vinaigrette. For the entrée, the selections are Chicken Fricassee, Marinated Flank Steak with Mushroom Brandy Sauce, or Today’s Fresh Catch. The entire dinner is specially priced at $26.95 per person plus tax and gratuity.
