Congratulations, Eric Rein, Winner of Bed and Breakfast Drawing

Mr. Eric Rein of Canton, Georgia, has won the monthly drawing for the Bed   Breakfast Package at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. His prize includes beautiful Victorian accommodations with king, queen or two double beds and the breakfast buffet for two in the Grand dining Room.

When Mr. Rein learned of his good fortune, he said, “This is great news! My first visit was with my parents when I was 12 years old. I have always been a history buff and enjoyed learning about the industrialists who made the island their winter home. My wife and I have visited twice in the last 8 or 9 years and love the peace and sense of history at the Jekyll Island Club. We now have two kids and do not have many opportunities for a getaway. We would love to return to Jekyll Island this year with our daughters or for our 5th wedding anniversary.”

While he visits the resort, Mr. Rein says he and his family will all enjoy time at the beach, touring the historic district, and eating good seafood. He especially looks forward to some fishing.

Opportunities for fun also include tournament level croquet, heated swimming pool, and putting green as well as three 18-hole golf courses, a tennis center, horse back riding, the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, and miles of biking and hiking trails. Tram tours of the Historic District are also available.

Give a Lincoln for Lincoln™

The Jekyll Island Club Hotel joins the nation in celebrating the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth. As a National Historic Landmark and member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the hotel supports the new initiative, Give a Lincoln for Lincoln™.

Throughout 2009, The National Trust for Historic Preservation commemorates the bicentennial of Lincoln's birth with Give a Lincoln for Lincoln™. In association with the National Park Foundation and led by History™, this program encourages Americans to make donations online to help preserve six key sites associated with Lincoln's life and legacy.

Americans are urged to donate Lincoln-head pennies or five dollar bills, or make larger contributions to help preserve the sites. Give a Lincoln for Lincoln™ aims to raise a minimum of $200,000, or $1,000 for every year since Lincoln's birth. The campaign is part of a larger education and outreach effort spearheaded by History™ in honor of the Lincoln Bicentennial.

The six sites are:
  • Lincoln's birthplace in Hodgenville, KY
  • Lincoln's boyhood home in Lincoln City, IN
  • The Lincoln Home in Springfield, IL
  • President Lincoln's Cottage in Washington, DC
  • The Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC
  • Ford's Theatre in Washington, DC
The Give a Lincoln for Lincoln™ program is a great opportunity to celebrate the 200th birthday of our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, and to support the preservation of historic places associated with one of America's greatest presidents.

The Pub

Snuggled away on the garden level of the Annex is the Hotel's quaint little bar affectionately named “The Pub.” Its comfy seating and exposed brick walls create an intimate atmosphere where enthusiasts can watch their favority sports events on the HD screen in true pub style. In good weather, the courtyard outside The Pub is a delightful place to enjoy the evening and a favorite libation.

The friendly bartender, who knows quite a bit about the Hotel and its story, says the bar itself is the original one placed there during the 1986 renovation. The woodwork is ornamented with Edwardian bas relief details in keeping with tastes of the Club Era.

International and domestic beers are available as well as wine, a wide variety of cocktails, and light snacks. A specialty of the house is the “Snapshot,” a mystical blend of vanilla vodka, Irish Crème and Amaretto.

The Pub opens Monday through Saturday at 5:00 pm and is closed on Sunday.
