Their Words, Not Ours

“Historic, charming”

TripAdvisor.com

Stay where the rich and famous of the Gilded Age hobnobbed in winter...and where J.P. Morgan and the Pulitzers socialized...

“Can't get enough!”

TripAdvisor.com

We absolutely love this place and we've stayed here as often as we can! We love the river view rooms in the main building.

"Beautiful Resort!"

Went here with hubby and kids, and had a great time. We had a ball renting bikes and playing croquet. The grounds are beautiful.

General James Oglethorpe founded the colony of Georgia and named Jekyll Island in honor of Sir Joseph Jekyll, his friend and financier from England.

Newton Finney and John Eugene DuBignon collaborated to turn Jekyll Island into a private hunting club for the nation’s wealthiest individuals.

The Island was purchased by the Jekyll Island Club, which Munsey’s Magazine called “the richest, the most exclusive, the most inaccessible club in the world. . . .”

Ground was broken on the Clubhouse in mid-August 1886, and The Club officially opened its door in January 1888.

Sans Souci was originally built as six apartment units, owned in part by J.P. Morgan, and is recognized among the nation's first condominium buildings.

Built in the style of Italian Renaissance, Crane Cottage was the largest, most lavish of the cottages and featured a sunken garden, fountains and an upper terrace.
